From 22nd-25th January, 2019, the project “Tourism – Competence centres for the development of sustainable tourism and innovative financial management strategies to increase the positive impact of local tourism in Thailand and Vietnam ”officially kicked off after two successful training courses in Vietnam (Hue and Ho Chi Minh City) in Phuket, Thailand. This project is funded by Erasmus + with the participation of many tourism experts from universities all over the world such as FH JOANNEUM (Austria), Haaga-Helia University (Finland), University of Alicante (Spain) which aims to help Thailand and Vietnam build competence centers for sustainable tourism development and creative financial management in the current world context.

Participants from HAT
Following the success of two training sessions in Vietnam, Prince of Songkongla University, Phuket as a host had been very carefully prepared, especially with the participation of businesses local to introduce and promote their sustainable tourism products.
This training mainly focused on the introduction of financial strategies, analyzing methods of developing financial development strategies, and then applying them to the competence centers of the participating units.

Training days were always taken place with exciting discussions and enthusiastic comments from travel experts. This is really a valuable opportunity for units to complete their center capacity project in the most effective way.
Activities in training days
Besides the training days, the participating teams also had the opportunity to experience the actual tourism activities in Phuket, Thailand. The program was built very elaborately and gave participants a lot of aspects in tourism development of Phuket, Thailand.
Participating teams also visited Old Town – one of Phuket’s must-see cultural destinations, experienced Phuket Siam Niramit show – world-class art program with more than 100 artists participating in performances, gorgeous costumes, special effects with the world’s most advanced stage technology. Besides, we cannot ignore the local specialties associated with local culture.
Field trip of the project
From this training in Phuket, Thailand, HAT gained many valuable experiences on how to build and develop our competence center and how to exploit and preserve tourism of Phuket, Thailand. Hopefully, the next training sessions will also be successful and bring many useful and interesting things like this.
